The Hamilton Base Bikers
WDHS has had a long and successful association with the Murray to Moyne Cycle Relay. Over the past 19 years, the Hamilton Base Bikers have raised over $150,000 for the purchase of equipment for the Allied Health and Theatre Departments and supported the redevelopment of the Cancer Treatment and Dialysis area of the Hamilton Base Hospital.
This year our team of 12 riders and four support crew will again participate, in what for some will be their 24th Murray to Moyne relay. The ride is a challenging but fun weekend, the culmination of many months preparation and hard work. The team aims to raise $15,000 for the Hamilton Base Hospital, which will be put towards the Cancer Treatment and Dialysis Area and to purchase some equipment for Allied Health Departments. Items for these departments are often not funded by the government and overlooked for fundraising projects. However, they are still a necessary and important part in providing the highest possible healthcare to our community.
Previous items purchased have included wheelchairs, podiatry drills, oxygen flow meters, phototherapy lights, deluxe air chairs, Tens machines, trauma mats, stairs for physiotherapy, shower and toilet chairs, bariatric frames, lifting slings and transfer boards to name just a few items. As one of our own team members said, “It’s the little things that can make all the difference,” and indeed they do.
